Los Angeles Rams Name Sean McVay as New Head Coach

McVay, who turns 31 on Jan. 24, will become the youngest head coach in the NFL since Art “Pappy” Lewis, who started in the role for the Cleveland Browns at 27, according to ESPN.

McVay comes to the Rams after three years running the Redskins’ offense. He started his career as assistant wide receivers coach with the Buccaneers in 2008 under head coach Jon Gruden, whom ESPN says reportedly recommended McVay for his new position.

“This is a great day as we welcome Sean McVay as our new head coach,” Rams Owner/Chairman E. Stanley Kroenke said in a statement. “The accomplishments and success that he has had in less than a decade in our league are impressive. We are confident in his vision to make this team a consistent winner and we will all continue to work together to achieve our ultimate goal – bringing a Rams Super Bowl championship home to Los Angeles.”

The Rams also welcomed McVay to the team with a tweeted photo:

The Rams are expected to hold a news conference welcoming McVay at 12:00pm (Pacific) on Friday.
