Ashton Eaton Goes for Second Olympic Decathlete Gold

Shaun Botterill/Getty Images(RIO DE JANEIRO) — Day 12 of the Olympic Games in Rio is underway, after an exciting Tuesday for Team USA.

With gymnastics and swimming finished for the 2016 Olympics, all eyes are now on track-and-field events.

Track and Field

The women’s 200-meter dash is scheduled for Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. with Tori Bowie and Deajah Stevens representing Team USA. Bowie took home a silver medal in the 100-meter sprint.

The women’s 100-meter hurdles finals is also Wednesday at 9:55 p.m. with the semifinals kicking off at 7:45 p.m. Brianna Rollins, Nia Ali and Kristi Castlin will be representing Team USA.

The decathlon also kicked off Wednesday morning, with Ashton Eaton of Team USA vying to win his second Olympic gold medal for the event after taking home gold in London.

Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt will also run Wednesday in the semifinals for the men’s 200-meter dash. Bolt holds the world record for 200 meters, with a time of 19.19 seconds.

Volleyball

The U.S. men’s volleyball team will face Poland in the quarterfinals Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.

Boxing

Claressa Shields will fight for the first time in the tournament Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Shields won gold in London and is the favorite to take home gold in Rio. She won two world championships and has been undefeated since London. Shields will fight Yaroslava Yakushina of Russia Wednesday afternoon.

Basketball

The U.S. men’s basketball team will face off against Argentina in the quarterfinals Wednesday at 5:45 p.m.

In other Olympic news, the games host nation of Brazil will cheer on their beloved soccer team at noon Wednesday, when Brazil takes on Honduras in the semifinals.

BMX cycling will also get underway Wednesday, with all eyes on Maris Strombergs of Latvia, the only man to win gold in the event since BMX was added to the Olympics in 2008.
