Atlanta Falcons star wide receiver Julio Jones undergoes successful bunion surgery

Phil Ellsworth/ESPN Images(NEW YORK) – Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones underwent surgery Monday to remove a bunion in his foot, calling it a “success” on social media. The Falcons say Jones faces a recovery of 4-5 months, but the team expects him to be ready for training camp in July.

ESPN reports Jones met with renowned foot surgeon Dr. Robert Anderson, and afterwards Falcons head coach Dan Quinn said last week surgery was a possibility. Anderson, who had repaired multiple fractures to Jones’ right foot in a previous surgery, ended up performing the bunion operation.

Jones missed two games in 2016 due to the bunion and was limited in practice at points during the season.

He still turned in one of the best seasons of any NFL wide receiver this past year, finishing with the second-most receiving yards in football (1,409) while leading the Falcons in catches (83).
