McCovey and Hall of Famer Duke Snider (who died in 2011) pleaded guilty to tax evasion in 1995 for unreported income received from memorabilia shows. He was fined $5,000 and given two years’ probation.

On Tuesday, McCovey, now 79 and a senior adviser to the Giants, was one of 273 individuals to be pardoned or granted commutations by the president.

McCovey was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1986, his first year of eligibility.
