Clemson Defeats Alabama 35-31 to Win the NCAA College Football National Championship

Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson; Streeter Lecka/Getty Images(TAMPA, Fla.) — Clemson avenged last year’s bitter defeat by Alabama in the national championship by last night defeating the #1-ranked Crimson Tide in the final seconds in Tampa, FL, winning the NCAA College Football National Championship game 35-31.

It looked as if Alabama had another victory in the bag, leading the #2-ranked Tigers right up to the final seconds of the game.  But then Clemson standout quarterback Deshaun Watson took the snap on first-and-goal with five seconds remaining in the game, completing a two-yard pass to receiver Hunter Renfrow to seal the victory, with a lone second remaining on the clock.

Last night’s win was Clemson’s first national championship since 1981.
