For many fans of the Chicago Cubs, the baseball championship is clearly the most pressing concern.
An informal survey outside Wrigley Field found that far more Cubs fans are concerned with the team’s winning its first World Series championship since 1908 than with the presidential race.
Until Sunday night, the team had not won a World Series game at Wrigley Field since 1945 when a tavern owner named William Sianis was turned away at the stadium gates because of the foul odor of his pet goat. The outraged Sianis allegedly protested by saying, “Them Cubs, they ain’t gonna win no more.”
The Cubs lost that 1945 World Series to the Detroit Tigers and are currently behind the Cleveland Indians 2-3 in the 2016 series.
The win Sunday came after Cubs pitcher Aroldis Chapman managed to close the game for the first eight-out save of his big league career.
In the game the day before, celebrity Cubs fan Bill Murray led the crowd at Wrigley Field in a rousing rendition of “Take Me Out To the Ballgame” during the 7th inning stretch.
The final games of the World Series will be played in Cleveland, which also served as home to the 2016 Republican National Convention.
