Cubs Take NL Central Title After Cardinals Loss

Phil Ellsworth / ESPN Images(CHICAGO) — It wasn’t pretty, and there wasn’t any champagne, but the Chicago Cubs managed to secure a post-season birth Thursday night.

Despite falling to the Milwaukee Brewers following an error-prone game, Chicago snatched the National League Central title on Thursday when the St. Louis Cardinals fell to the San Francisco Giants, 6-2.

The Cubs are the first team to clinch a playoff spot this season. While it’s a great accomplishment for the team, the franchise’s ultimate goal is to win its first World Series in 108 years.
