(HOMESTEAD, Fla.) — Jimmie Johnson has made history, winning his seventh Sprint Cup Championship Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Johnson, 41, now ties Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt as the only drivers to win the championship seven times. He’s also the youngest, a year younger than Petty was when he won his seventh title in 1979.
The win is particularly sweet for Johnson, who earlier this season went 25 starts without a victory, the longest winless stretch of his career.
The driver of the Hendrick Motorsports #48 Chevy SS pulled away from Kyle Busch and Joey Logano with just three laps to go, to seal his victory.
