Kenley Jansen Resigns with Dodgers

Jamie Squire/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) – After fielding competing offers from other teams, Kenly Jansen has agreed to a five-year, $80-million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Although Jansen has pitched for the Dodgers for his entire seven year career, it was not guaranteed he would return.

The Washington Nationals and Miami Marlins were also in play for Jansen. In fact, according to ESPN, both the Nationals and Marlins had better offers. However, the reliever wanted to stay in Los Angeles.

Jansen’s contract is the second largest for a free agent reliever, only behind Aroldis Chapman’s five-year, $86 million deal that he signed with the New York Yankees a week ago.

Last season, Jansen finished with 47 saves in 71 appearances, in addition to a 1.83 ERA. His performance earned him the 2016 Trevor Hoffman National League Reliever of the Year Award.
