iStock/Thinkstock(BOCA RATON, Fla.) – Florida Atlantic University has named Alabama’s offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin as the school’s new head football coach.

This signing marks Kiffin’s return to being a head coach after three seasons at Alabama. Kiffin has six years of head coaching experience, both in the NFL and NCAA. He spent two seasons with the NFL’s Oakland Raiders, then a year at Tennessee before taking over as head coach for USC.

The move from the SEC to Conference USA will be a result in a pay cut for Kiffin. According to ESPN, Kiffin will average $1 million a season as FAU’s head coach. He earned $1.4 million as Alabama’s offensive coordinator.

Kiffin will remain with Alabama throughout the College Football Playoff, as the school looks to repeat after last year’s victory over Clemson. Alabama will play Washington in the Peach Bowl on New Year’s Eve.
