iStock/Thinkstock(RIO DE JANERO) — Michael Phelps closed out his appearance in the Rio Olympics by adding a 23rd gold medal to his collection.
Phelps swam the butterfly leg in Saturday’s 4×100 relay, regaining the lead from Great Britain.
Nathan Adrian anchored the race, securing Team USA’s victory.
Phelps insists that he will retire after the Rio Olympics, making Saturday’s event his last Olympic race. If it is in fact the end, he would finish his Olympic career with 28 medals overall. having won 5 golds and 1 silver in Rio.
