One of the first dominos fell on Thursday when the Houston Texans sent Brock Osweiler to Cleveland just one year after signing him to a four-year, $72 million contract. Osweiler underwhelmed in Houston last year, and briefly lost his job to backup Tom Savage.
The Chicago Bears released quarterback Jay Cutler on Thursday. With backup Brian Hoyer expected to sign a new deal with the San Francisco 49ers, Chicago plans to sign former Tampa Bay Buccaneer QB Mike Glennon.
In the nation’s capital, Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins has asked for a trade if the team doesn’t plan to sign him to a long-term contract.
And on America’s team, the quarterback drama continues. After a season in which rookie signal caller Dak Prescott overtook injured veteran Tony Romo, the Cowboys had been rumored to release Romo to end the debate over who should start in 2017. But, ESPN reports, the Cowboys are now expected to trade Romo instead of releasing him. The Denver Broncos and Houston Texans are both potential landing spots.
A number of teams are still looking to improve at quarterback, including the New York Jets.
