Report: Tony Romo Will Likely Not Play Against Steelers Sunday

Scott Clarke / ESPN Images(DALLAS) — Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo may be healthy enough to step back on the field but it doesn’t appear he’ll be playing in Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Sources tell ESPN that Romo, who’s been out with a compression fracture in his back since the preseason, is not expected to be on the active roster this weekend.

This past Thursday, the 36-year-old quarterback completed his second consecutive practice. The day before, ESPN reported that he had been medically cleared.

Rookie quarterback Dak Prescott has been filling in for Romo in his absence, and he is expected to be the starter when the Cowboys head to Pittsburgh. So far this season, Prescott has led the team to a 7-1 record.
