Tony Stewart Paying Tribute to Bobby Allison with Darlington Throwback Scheme

Phil Ellsworth / ESPN Images(DARLINGTON, S.C.) — Tony Stewart will salute NASCAR Hall of Famer Bobby Allison with his throwback paint scheme in the upcoming Sprint Cup race at Darlington Raceway in South Carolina.

Stewart-Haas Racing revealed Wednesday that Stewart’s No. 14 Coca-Cola Chevrolet SS will feature a red-and-gold scheme reminiscent of Allison’s schemes in 1971 and 1972, when he won the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway.

“I’ve been a member of the Coca-Cola Racing Family for my entire NASCAR career and been a part of some pretty cool and unique promotions, but this one is definitely my favorite,” Stewart, who’s retiring at the end of the season, said in a statement. “The throwback weekend Darlington has created makes it the perfect place to run a scheme that has a ton of history with Bobby Allison and Coca-Cola.”

Several other drivers have already announced their throwback paint schemes for this year’s Southern 500, which will be held at Darlington on Sept. 4.
