Tom Szczerbowski/Getty Images(MINNEAPOLIS) – Norv Turner, the offensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings, has resigned.
Turner’s resignation comes after the Vikings’ second straight loss, where they fell to their division rivals, the Chicago Bears, 20-10.
While currently leading the NFC North division with a 5-2 record, the Vikings are second to last in the NFL in total offensive yards, averaging slightly more than 293 yards per game. In addition to having one of the worst offenses in the league, the team has been plagued with injuries, including a season ending injury to Pro Bowl running back Adrian Peterson.
The Vikings announced Pat Schumer will be the team’s interim offensive coordinator. Schumer inherits an offense led by quarterback Sam Bradford, whom he has coached twice before while with the St. Louis Rams in 2010 and the Philadelphia Eagles last season.
Turner joined the Vikings’ coaching staff in 2014, after serving in the same role with the Cleveland Browns for one season. Prior to that, he spent six seasons as the head coach of the San Diego Chargers.
