Chelsea originally bought the World Cup winner from Benfica in January 2023 for $131 million, turning a profit after three years and 170 competitive appearances that yielded 31 goals and 30 assists for the West London side.
The transfer enables Fernández to link back up with manager Enzo Maresca, under whom he played some of his best football at Stamford Bridge before the Italian strategist took charge at Etihad Stadium.
