Americans Capture First Gold Medal in Rio

Pascal Guyot/Getty Images(RIO DE JANEIRO) – American Virginia Thrasher took home the first gold medal of the 2016 Olympic Games on Saturday, capturing the top spot in the women’s 10-meter air rifle competition.

The 19-year-old topped Du Li of China with a score of 208.0, an Olympic final round record.

Yi Siling of China took home bronze.

This is the third U.S. gold medal in women’s air rifle history, and the first since the 2000 games.
