First College Football Playoff Ranking Surprises

iStock/Thinkstock(IRVING, Texas) – The first rankings for the College Football Playoff have been released and it comes with a few surprises — the biggest being Texas A&M at No. 4, while undefeated Washington landed at No. 5.

One of the reasons for the Aggies’ higher placement is due to their schedule being more difficult than the Huskies.

The other top three teams are Alabama, Clemson and Michigan, coming in at No. 1, 2, and 3, respectively.

While only the top four teams make it to the College Football Playoff, schools like Ohio State, Louisville and Wisconsin still have a chance to improve their ranking before the final selections are made on Dec. 3.

The CFP consists of two semi-final games, the Fiesta Bowl and the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, that lead to the College Football Playoff National Championship that will be played in Tampa, Florida on Jan. 9.
