Report: San Francisco 49ers Plan to Offer Kyle Shanahan Head-Coaching Job

Alex Goodlett/Getty Images(SAN FRANCISCO) — The San Francisco 49ers are planning to offer Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan their head-coaching job at the end of the season, sources said to ESPN.

According to ESPN, the team will request a second interview next week after Sunday’s NFC Championship Game where the Falcons will host the Green Bay Packers.

If he is offered the job, Shanahan would fill the empty position left by Chip Kelly, who was fired by the 49ers after one season.

Seattle Seahawks assistant head coach and offensive line coach Tom Cable was also in the running for the gig, but on Tuesday his agent said on Twitter that Cable was “reaffirming his commitment to the Seahawks.”

Shanahan, the son of NFL coach Mike Shanahan, was the offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns in 2014, the Washington Redskins in 2010 to 2013 where he worked with his father, and in 2008-2009 for the Houston Texans.
