The Nationals Place Stephen Strasburg on DL with Right Elbow Soreness

Scott Clarke / ESPN Images(WASHINGTON) — The Washington Nationals have placed Stephen Strasburg on the disabled list with right elbow soreness.

According to manager Dusty Baker, the 28-year-old right-hander wanted to pitch through the pain.

“He knows how bad we need him to pitch,” he said according to ESPN. “I had to explain to him that it’s not hero time.”

Baker added that Strasburg would “hopefully” be “good” in September and/or October, according to ESPN

Strasburg was on the DL from June 19 to July 3 for a strain in his upper-back. He also underwent surgery for an elbow ligament replacement in September 2010.

A. J. Cole will replace Strasburg as the starting pitcher in Monday night’s game against the Baltimore Orioles.
